click on start > control panel > add / remove program > on the left had side click on add / remove windows Components > click on accessories and utilites and at the bottom right click on details see if you have a check mark next to Calculator if not put a check mark and then restart the system. if everything is ok and under control panel and still you dont get the calculator option then try a shortcut
click on start > run and type calc and click ok and it will open the calculator
I did as you said and went to add/remove programs. There is a check mark next to calculator.
I am able (always was able) to access and use from shortcut on my desktop.
What I am trying to do is get the calc icon back on the accessories list and get rid of the shortcut on the desktop.
If I delete the shortcut I have no choice but to probably click on run and type in calc. I'm not sure how this all happened but am trying to restore back to the way it should be.
If you still have the calculator shortcut on your desktop right-click it and select "Cut" from the context menu. Now open Windows Explorer and navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs. Right-click the Accessories folder and select "Paste." The shortcut will now have been removed from your desktop and you wil be able to access calculator from the All Programs menu. (The process is illustrated
here for a slightly different problem.)
