Can not uninstall Dell wireless utiliity
Hi :emotion-3:Trying to install win7 with my son. Had to uninstall Dell Wireless utility first, once uninstalled we got cold feet and recovered it using restore on vista. Since then we get an error messege every time we try to uninstall it.. Error code c:\build\PBR_REL_5_100_38_30\win_external_wl\src\toolsinstall\app\bcmwls\update.cpp58. Can you help get over this error and uninstall the dell wireless utility manually?

First of all why are you trying to uninstall the Dell Wireless Utility? Also, are you upgrading to Win7 or doing a fresh install of Win7?

Uninstalling utility because it showed as uncompatable when we starrted to loaded the win7 upgrade disk

If still having utility uninstall errors it’s probably because the utility service is still active & running?
Navigate to Services Window as follows
Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services (or run Services.msc)
Look for the entry Dell Wireless WLAN Tray Service
If present, right click on Dell Wireless WLAN Tray Service & select Properties
From the General tab if Startup type indicates Automatic & Service status indicates Started
Then change Startup type to Manual & click on the Stop button
Or since you don’t even want that service just change Startup type to Disabled then click OK
Now scroll down through Services Window to Wireless Zero Configuration
Right click & select Properties
From the General tab, change Startup type to Automatic & click on the Start button then click OK
If you want to continue using Vista with your network card prior to installing W7 upgrade
Then navigate to Wireless Network Connection & select Properties
From Wireless Networks tab, checkbox enable Use Windows to configure ….. settings & click OK
Reboot computer

I am having the same problem as icecreem but I cannot find anything in the services that is named 'wireless zero configuration,' are there any other options for uninstalling the utility?

My bad, unfortunately I was in XP SP2 mode & with no feedback from icecreem, didn’t notice my mistake until you posted :emotion-10:
Anyhow, if using Vista & logged on through Admin account,
Same as already mentioned above but instead of Wireless Zero Configuration
Look for Wired AutoConfig, right click & select Properties
From the General tab, change Startup type to Automatic & click on the Start button then click OK
Now look for WLAN AutoConfig, right click & select Properties
From the General tab, change Startup type to Automatic & click on the Start button then click OK
Close/exit Services Window etc..
Reboot computer

The same thing happened to me, I uninstalled the wireless utility, which also uninstalled the driver so I used the restore (vista). When I tried to uninstall it again the same error would come up. To solve this problem I went to DELL's driver download page and downloaded the driver for my wireless card and installed it. I could then manually uninstall it with no problem.
Hope this helps anyone who also faces this problem.
