Cannot Delete File

I made the folder with the New folder command. I do not know what happen. The Good news is I tried the ownership of a File or Folder in Window xp in Safe Mode. I could not take control but I got it moved into my Recycle Bin. It will not delete out of there I tried delete, Empty Recyle Bin- And Clean disk. But at least I moved it.

What exactly do I need to type in command prompt to remove it out of there . When I bring up my comman prompt the red is what show. What do I need to type. The Folder is know in the Rycyle Bin\Picture Folder

C:Documents and Setting\My Name>

The other major delete problem thread solved his by moving the file/folder to a ram drive (which just disappears when turned off) logically you could try to move this file/folder to a floppy and then just format the floppy after.

I have the same problem with a file that I made called junk.  I have tried all of your suggestions but none of them have worked so far.  I can delete the file in safe mode, and when I reboot my computer the file is still gone.  After awhile it just appears again.  I also cut and pasted it to a floppy, no luck with that one either.

I have used the program you suggested webattack.com.  Same thing, it does delete it and then it just appears again.  When I go to the dos page and put in the information you all suggested it tells me that there is no C:\Documents and Settings.  I'm familiar with DOS so I have no problem trying things out! 

Random things appear in this junk folder, but all things that come back in there are in other places on my computer.  Such as pictures, how these things get in there is a mystery to me. 

I noticed that after page 4 there was no further conversation on this subject.  Was it fixed or is it something I have to live with. 

 

I still have the file in a folder in My Documents. I cut and pasted it into a folder I do not use very often.  I did all that was suggested and never got rid of the folder.

I hope you have better luck than I did and if you ever get rid of your folder please pass on the information.

Well at least you were able to cut and paste it and keep it out.  No matter what I do with it in "safe mode" or with the program suggested to remove it at next boot, it always comes back.  Maybe not right away, but it comes back.

I even went to the c: prompt and tried to delete it, and the message comes back that there is no such file "junk". 

Dell sent me a email that I needed to go into the registry and change things, well I went in there and I didn't find any "junk" file so I didn't change anything, I don't need anymore headaches.

Thanks for getting back to me.  I guess I'll smile, no sense in letting this little annoyance get to me.

Hi;

I just wanted to tell you that I finally was able to delete my "junk" file.  It was tedious, it not for the faint of heart because it takes time and your full attention,  but it can be done.

I had a lap top that I was able to look at the registry at the time I was doing the changes on my computer.  That was only to see if each computer has the same information and it does except for the binary numbers which we don't touch at least I don't.  But this is what you need to do.

Click on start; run; and type in the block regedit.  That will take you to the registry.  Now go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\Current Version\ProfileList.  Be sure to only go to this windows version or you won't find what your looking for.

This will be your profile.  It should be C:\Documents and Settings\Your name\My Documents  and there should be nothing after that.  If there is write down the words that are there so you remember them.  It should be your unwanted file. 

If the unwanted file name is there;  click on the word profile and then go to the top of your computer screen and go into edit.  Click on modify and put your cursor on the last letter of the word you want to remove and click on it. Delete only the file name you want to remove and the \  after your name.

Well your not done because that pesky file is in other places just hiding on you.  So now go to the top and click on edit.  Go to find and type in the unwanted file name and nothing else and click find when you get to the next string do the same thing.  Keep searching for that file and removing it from the string like you did above, until it tells you there is no more.

Now just for kick's go to find again and type in C:\Documents and Settings\Your name  and search for that.  I did this just in case I missed the "junk" file someplace.  It probably isn't necessary but I like to be sure I hate to have to go back and search somemore.

Now go to file and exit.  Go to the folder that you put that file in on your desk top and put it in the trash and empty trash now.  Now go to  My computer and to C:   to Documents and settings and click on it, go to your name and click on it go to my documents and see if that file is any place along the way or in there.  If it is you should beable to just right click delete and it will go to the trash.  "BE SURE TO EMPTY THAT TRASH" immediately.  You should not get the message that "this file can not be deleted as it is a system file"  that should be gone.  If it isn't then that file is still someplace in the registry.

Then restart your computer and check to see if that file is there.  It should be GONE!!!!!

Take your time doing this, working in the registry is not scary as long as you follow the directions and don't change anything but what you went in there to do.
