Cannot enter PC restore

http://forums.us.dell.com/supportforums/board/message?board.id=dim_other&message.id=239868

I've followed the instructions (the website above), but it doesn't work. And before I've done, I cannot enter the page, but now, I press Ctrl + F11 during booting, it did enter a new page, but it said "Cannot restore"

Can anybody help me?

Elvisng,

It would help if you could be a little more specific; just saying "it doesn't work" doesn't help us much.

There are several conditions that must be just right for PC Restore to work.  The instructions in that msg thread addressed only one condition--the Dell MBR.  If you see the blue "www.dell.com" banner and are getting a "Cannot restore" msg, that indicates the instructions you followed did indeed work--it suggests, however, that your problem is not with the Dell MBR, but is in one of the other conditions not covered by that thread.

Try running dsrfix.com (it's in the same download from which you extracted mbrsaver.com) to get a report on the state of your system.  If you'll follow the instructions on www.goodells.net/dellrestore/fixes.htm to capture and email me a logfile, I'll have a much better idea of what's going on with your system.

If you fpllowed these procedures to use PC restore.

Power the computer on.
When the black screen with the Dell Logo in the top blue bar appears,  press and hold the Ctrl key on the keyboard, then press the F11 key, then release them both at the same time.   The Dell PC Restore by Symantec window appears.

NOTE: Only press the keys one time, if you press them more than once you will receive a keyboard error and will have to start the process over.

Click the Restore button. A caution message appears advising that all data will be lost.
Click the Confirm button. The progress window appears. When the restore is complete the message "The system recovery process was  successful"
appears.
Click the Finish button. The computer should restart.

And the PC Restore failed to start, then check out out the following post

Dell has just contacted me that they no longer provide the PC restore program, although my system was just bought a week before.

You have oppertunity to create the XP reinstall CD, if this fails, then call Dell's Technical Support for the CD to be shipped to you.
