Cannot shut down

I received this Dell XPS 410 two weeks ago, and now when i tried to shut down my computer in Window XP, and it didn't work at all (it shows the programs are shutting down, but after a minute the window paused and it does not shut down). Is there a way to solve this problem?

For starters, try installing User Profile Hive Cleanup Service (uphclean.exe), free from Microsoft, here:

Do you close all windows with running apps before shutting down? Did you install some new software or hardware? Before shutting down, check for running applications by using Cntl+alt+delete and looking at the Application tab. You might see the app that is not closing properly and hanging the computer. If you still have trouble, use Dell Chat to get new computer support.
