Can't download a pdf file

Whenever I try to download and open a pdf file, I get the message:
 
"This file does not have a program associated with it for
performing this action.  Create an association in the Folder
Options control panel."
 
This did not happen until a month ago.  How do I fix this?  Microsoft windows help is useless.

Control Panel, Folder Options, File Types, scroll down to PDF.  Is adobe listed as the associated file to open the pdf?  If not, you need to download Adobe Acrobat Reader to see the files or click Change and see if Adobe is already on the list to re-associate.
