Can't log on to AOL because there are too many programs running
I have a Dimension 8100, and Windows ME.
When I try to log on to AOL it tells me that there are too many programs running. I called AOL support and they told me to CTRL-ALT-DEL. It brought up the Close Program window, and I found that there were about 25 items in it. I know I don't need that many programs running, but closing them in the Close Program window only works until the next time I boot up, plus my computer keeps freezing when I do it.
What should I do?

That is a common response from AOL tech support (and totally bogus). However, you can minimize the number of programs that start when Windows boots using the information here and the link therein to Pac's Portal.

John:
Suggest you start a new thread. Please try to give as much detail as possible about your systems, OS, how you connect (dial-up, cable, DSL), etc.
Oops, forgot to add, please put this in the Software-Other forum.
