can't open 2004 turbotax compressed file

I tried to follow the instructions "to extract files from a zipped compressed folder" but the folder did not look zipped and did not open. I moved the folder but that didn't help. I installed the 2004 cd from turbotax but I got "product activation service client library is not initialized". All the file properties are there. Suggestions please? I am posting also at TurboTax even though they say can't help with retreving records. I just want to transfer my 2004 to the new 2005 program.

This is not a Windows XP issue, it's a program application issue and should have been on the Other Software section.

Turbotax files are in a proprietary format and only Turbotax  can access them, unless you did something on your own to the file.  I had my old 2004 Turbotax file on my PC, in the native Turbotax format and there wasn't any problems importing the info into the 2005 version.    Your best option is Turbotax to get this resolved.

You don't have to do anything. TTax will find your completed 2004 .tax file if you have it saved on your computer. It has nothing to do with the program itself, which can be uninstalled. It's your final TAX form that you filed last year and has a TAX extension. 2004YourName.tax
