can't reinstall Adobe Reader 6.0.1

I uninstalled Adobe Reader, but I can't reinstall because my computer still thinks the old program is there.  History: AR 6.0 was working fine. Then my daughter installed AR 6.0.1.  This caused 3 or 4 message windows to pop up every time we tried to open a pdf.  The messages said that two plug-ins with the same name were trying to work at the same time.  It was aggravating to have to click through these message windows every time, so I uninstalled AR in Settings-Control Panel-Add/Remove Programs.  AR disappeared from the list of programs as it should have.  Then I tried reinstalling AR 6.0.1.  It downloads OK, but will not install completely.  I get nearly all the way through the Setup Wizard until I get an error message telling me that the installation file I need is on a network resource that is not available.  A search of my computer tells me that the installation file is located in several folders.  But the setup wizard won't accept any of these folders.  I keep getting told that it is an invalid folder.  When I finally give up and hit cancel, I am told that "the old 6.0.1 program can not been removed."  However, the old program is nowhere to be found.  I am unable to open a pdf, so I know the program is gone.  I have tried the entire process several times, but no go.  On top of all this, I find out that  System Restore has not been creating restore points periodically like it is supposed to.  The only restore point available to me is the point afterwhich I uninstalled AR yesterday.  Help.

gpell,

Others have reported problems due to a corrupted download. If you have only downloaded 6.0.1 once you should download it again to see if the problem persists.

gpell,

in addition to a corrupted d/l, sometimes when removing a program with add/remove some parts of the program are not removed. Try doing a search files/folders for Adobe and Acrobat and delete files found, if any. Then try another d/l.

I checked the Acrobat website and found a FAQ section.  Denny, you were right.  Others have had problems with the downloads.  One of the solutions they suggested was to try to download a text only file from one of their mirror sites.  I tried it and it downloaded correctly.  Thanks. gpell
