Can't update Windows XP

If this is not the right forum please let me know where to post this, I need help if anyone here knows what to do for this..

When Dell Support pops up and says update windows, vulnerability detected, I can't update windows because of these failed codes.

Failed Updates
Update for Windows XP (KB898461) Error Code: 0x80200010  and Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool (KB892130)  Error Code: 0x80200010

I have tried for months to update these.  I even contacted microsoft and someone there wanted a screenshot of something and I sent them the info but they never resolved.

Help anyone??

Coco1963f,
The BITS (Background Intelligent Transfer Service) is for some reason not seeing your network card and not completing updates to Windows and the Microsoft Genuine Advantage Validation Tool.
 
0x80200010 The network card is inactive or disconnected. All jobs are placed in the BG_JOB_STATE_TRANSIENT_ERROR state
 
First suggestion:  Click on Start|All Programs|Windows Update or this link.  http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/v6/default.aspx?ln=en-us
 
Click on the Custom button. Locate the KB898461 and Windows Genuine Advantage Tool updates and attempt to update them that way.
 
Second suggestion:  Run Dell's PC Checkup program online here:  http://pccheckup.dellfix.com/rel/?randseed=0.5020317895908126.
 
Hope these suggestions help solve your problem.

thanks for the info, I tried all sites including the dell pc check up it said I had to update java sun and windows, but when I went to java.com.  it wouldn't download that either, I've tried several downloads and updates  and I'm still not able to update.  I keep getting the same errors. :smileysad:

i was getting errors from windows update too i manualy went to windows download and downloaded the service pack 6 i think for internet explorer and then after i installed it update was working fine.

its the lastest service pack for internet explorer not sure which it is

Coco1963f,

Ok.  Try this.  Restart your computer.  Press F8 (about two times per second) while Dell Logo is on screen.  Choose Safe Mode with Networking.  Login as Administrator.  Now try to download updates.  If you get same error, post back and let us know.
