Thank you. I went and checked, but could not find my original resolution. I changed DPI settings to 120 which has resolved issues on desktop but web home page format is still difficult to read. The whole screen is displayed, fonts are generally larger but items such as crosswork and sudoku are still much smaller. Is this an issue I must take up with my ISP?
I've been enduring the same dilemma as Cal, but it seems that with your advice I cannot get a satisfactory solution. The appearance scale changes with each site; home pages, email, etc. The text and print one has become faded and each tiime I make an effort at display correction some other appearance problem surfaces. Somehow or other each 'solution effort' I've pursued has made this worse. I'm almost afraid to go backwards in resolve as I don't know what I'd lose. I need some real help here. Actually, I fear this will happen each time there's an update.
if those updates prompt comes up again - dont install them - change the way windows updates are done - change it to something like - notify me before installing........or notify me after downloading but before installing...
if u still havent tried this...
go to ctrl panel...
programs and features
uninstall a program
clik on view updates
look back at the updates recently installed , if there is a time specified- mention the KB article number in this post...

what is the video card on your PC??? ( both of u...............we may have a coincidence here!!!!!!!!!!!!!) checkin device manager - device manager-display adapters..
I proceeded as you guessed I might with the system restore. I took it back to two weeks ago. Same problem; even different email (and sometime email from the same sources)comes out in different font/text sizes, sites sizes differ half-page on screen, and of course with over-size or squint size text. This is a new (Christmas) 530 running on VISTA. The video card is what came with it.
I'm adding extra memory today as DELL indicated prior to this dillemma that what it came with doesn't really run VISTA very well. :smileysurprised:
Why do I feel DELL has a special "Laugh with Contempt" room. The amount of time this convenience provides is rather expensive.
Thank you for interest and advice. Very kind of you,
yes..as a forum member previously ointed out .. its with intel video thats changing resolution ..system restore cant be considered a genuine "fix" but certainly is a workaround
:smileyvery-happy: My thanks to all of you who have shared in this matter. As I needed DELL Tech - Help in adding memory, I raised the problem I was having.
It seemed that the setting I had for my 17" flat-panel was altered. As suggested in these discussions, I was led to Display Personal setting and made the corrections. So far (the past two hours) the screens and fonts are all fitting.
For the sake of observation: It seems that one little 'boing' can upset the whole scenario. I was getting variations on font sizes (up and down).
With the adjustment made today, I can only hope that I won't endure unintended consequences for receiving some gratuitous help in the future.

This does not seem a reasonable situation to me..
