Chip set downloading and installation, help.

Hi. Could some one explain to me the instruction in installing chipset R130391.exe

The Intel CS INF package contains many different individual INFs, supporting various ICHs, various OSes, and various Intel Chipsets. It is possible that a specific platform may not need all INFs within the package.

In order to extract only the needed INFs for a given platform, please execute the following command (it is very important to run the above command on a platform on which the extracted INF files will be later installed):

setup.exe -aonly -overall

The above command will send the needed INFs to C:\Program Files\Intel\INFInst folder.

Is the command above executed after the chipset is installed? or the command is run before the chipset is installed ?

Also I have the same file name " R130391.exe " with the same version " 8.0.0.1009, A17 " in two different released dates; 1) Sept 15, 2006, 2) Jun 27, 2008, both of them as urgent for Dimension DXP061. Are they not supposed to be different if it is a new driver version?

Sorry if this post seems to be repeated, but my first post was deleted, supposedly because of bad language. If so I apologized to whomever got insulted. English is not my native language and I do try to make it as readable as possible

If you downloaded the file from the Dell support website then all you should need to do is run the exe (in this case, R130391.exe).  When you run it, it should extract its contents to c:\dell\drivers\R130391 and then automatically run the install program to do the update.  You should not have to manually run setup.exe from that directory, although you can do so if you need to.

Thank you Larry, I found this page in the Intel web site where they say that a new chipset utility will not install over an old version unless you use the have-disk installation method.

http://www.intel.com/support/chipsets/inf/sb/CS-009278.htm?iid=chipsets+infmain&

Now I do not know if the downloads that Dell has are specially designed to install over old versions, Also could you confirm if indeed R130391.exe is a new version - read my second part of the original post -

Thank you again.

What model of Dell computer do you have?  I need that to tell which chipset you should be using.

As for the install question, yes, the Dell driver will remove the old driver and then install.

The latest drivers for the Dimension 9200/XPS 410 are here.  From that page, it appears the file you have downloaded is indeed the correct (latest) chipset for your system.

[I don't assume someone is talking about the computer in their signature because a large number of people have more than one computer.]
