Computer is generally becoming slower

Im looking for other ways to increase the performance of my computer when it gets slow. So far when my computer (2.66ghtz 512ram 120gb hd) becomes slow I check it for Spyware, viruses, and sometimes defrag the hard drive. Are there any other ways to get the computer back to good performance.

Thanks for your help,

Coglon

Two items I would recommend.

1. Clean the registry. Try RegVac at www.superwin.com (Trial version available) This will remove unnecessary entries.

2. Use a defrag program like Diskeeper, available for trial at www.diskeeper.com. This really defrags the hard drive.

3. Go here and check out the tips for XP.

-Tune UP Utilities 2003 download it from www.download.com

-Ad-Aware 6.0 download it from www.download.com

Both of these software gets the job done for me and many many more years to come.
