CONEXANT D850 Fax NOT WORKING

Question

My fax stopped working out of the blue, I've download and re-downloaded the driver and nothing......I spent over an hour with "tech support" the other day and still nothing.

Any suggestions? I really REALLY need my fax to work.

I have a dedicated DSL line that has never been an issue.

assuming your dialup modem is working normally as seen in device manager then I suggest you uninstall the fax software then reinstall it. you will need the xp cd to reinstall the fax software.

No, I don't.  It just one day, stopped working.....the last fax I sent was October 29, 2007.

Open Device Manager and make sure the modem is still set to "enabled" and Device Usage is set to Use this device.

Then click Troubleshooting button and use the wizard to test the modem functions.

Are you sure the modem is still connected to a live phone line? A conexant modem can't use a DSL phone line. It needs an old fashioned analog phone line, so do you have connected to the right line?

Yes, the device is seen.  I have XP Home Edition Service Pack 1 & 2....any idean where it would be?

Hi Ron, yes I have a DSL line and a dedicated line for the phone....it has never been an issue until lately.

Did you make sure the modem is enabled in Device Manager and then run the troubleshooter? I suppose it's possible the modem just died. :( Ron

Hi Ron, yes, the modem is working - even Dell tech support was able to verify that.  THey claim it's a software issue, however, I pulled my XP installation discs and they are to reinstall the entire OS, not specific drives and/or software, which apparently is the concern.

Try running a wndows system file check:
click start>run
type in: sfc /scannow
(space between sfc and /)
click OK
Insert XP CD if sfc requests it and reboot when it's done.

Won't harm personal files or installed software.

If that doesn't work, go to Add/Remove programs and under the Add/Remove Windows Components, uncheck the fax application, reboot after it is removed and then add the fax application using the same procedure. No guarantees, but it's worth a try.
