The system is only 2 months old so I don't know why files may be missing that prevent a restore or refresh.

Hi Chinmay

The problem isn't occurring when I try do a windows update. It is when I try to refresh windows, and when I try to restore to factory image.

I go to-

-settings

-change pc settings

-general

-then either "refresh pc without affecting your files" or "remove everything and reinstall windows" tells me that there are files missing and it cannot continue.

I have also tried this with recovery media in the drive to try to find the files and it doesn't work.

Hi CheeseyPeas,

You may try 'System Update Readiness Tool' and see if it helps. For more information on this error, you may refer to link: http://bit.ly/29LJWV You may also run a Microsoft Fix it on same webpage and see if it helps.

Please share the findings.

Do you have any ideas please? I have tried recovery via recovery discs in boot menu but still encounter same issues after. Thank you.

Hi Chinmay,

I am facing exactly the same issue, I have raised a support ticket 6 days back with Dell India. I am being told that the issue has been sent for resolution with  team internally and waiting. I am trying to assist by attaching this url to that support ticket, but looks like they are not keen in taking it over phone.. How else this information can be passed on?

Since the laptop is brand new I am waiting to see if I can get factory settings restored and start using it.

Mani.

Hi Mani,

I understand your concern.

Are you getting the same error code 80070490? If yes, may I know the exact screen when you get this error message?

Please share the troubleshooting steps that you have performed so far. You may also run an onboard diagnostic test on your computer. For detailed steps on it, you may refer to link: http://dell.to/OUGnqT

Awaiting your response.

Hi Chinmay,

Thanks for your response. I tried repartitioning the C: which didn't complete and errored out. When I rebooted the system  it went into recovery boot and came back to a state where Win 8 was deactivated and when I tried activating it asked me to purchase a new key since the old key is invalid. So I went to Advanced options in boot and asked it to restore my systems settings removing my personal settings also expecting the system will come back to factory settings. This however didn't activate windows. The Dell Backup and Restore software was showing that a update was available and after that update the application has started crashing leaving me virtually without any option to do recovery at all.

The onboard diagnostic test resulted in no errors and reported everything fine. So I didn't perform any other troubleshooting steps.

I have been assured of fixing this issue tomorrow by support team, will wait for it.

Thanks again for response, Mani.
