Default email - outlook

Question

I cannot make outlook my default email program. I log into outlook and click default under tools - options, but as soon as I close, it removes the default selection. Any idea what's going on?

I have tried adding outlook to internet explorer, but it does not give me that option.  The drop down box is empty.

In addition to making that selection in Outlook you must also open Internet Explorer and go to Tools|Internet Optioins|Programs tab and select Outlook as the default E-mail program from the drop-down mneu.

I am using outlook express. My accounts are added properly. This was working as my default until today, when I tried to install office. I don't know if the error arose from there. I log into outlook express and click default under tools - options, but as soon as I close, it removes the default selection. I got into internet explorer and it does not list outlook as a default email.

Then you do not have Outlook set up properly if it's not appearing in the list. I think you are talking about Outlook Express, not Office's Outlook--a completely different program. There is no 'make default' setting in Tools, Options in Outlook. Only Outlook Express has that option. You must first set up your email accts in Outlook Express using the pop settings provided by your ISP. If you have web mail instead of POP mail, use your browser instead.

computers are not my thing, You say, 'I log into outlook express and click default under tools' and then later state, 'I got into internet explorer and it does not list outlook as a default email.' If you are checking to make Outlook Express your default it should not be surprising that Oulook is not the default.

I can see that I'm being a little unclear.  I am trying to set outlook express as my default for all programs, including internet explorer.  This way, if I am on a website with an email address link, when I click on it, outlook express will open automatically, with that email address in the address field.  Until today, it was set up this way.  It was also helpful because I could click on any file I had and 'send to email recipeint' and my outlook would open, with the file already attached.  I cannot do this anymore either.  I have tried adjusting the 'set program access and defaults', but the only choice I have is 'use my current email program' and it doesn't seem to make a difference.  I don't know what happened, but I would like to get my outlook express back to being my default email.
