Does MAC support windows compatible NTFS formatting for the drive?  This is not a MAC forum, we deal with Windows OS systems and I don't know if a MAC can fix (it it's fixable) a hard drive that is formatted in NTFS (what Windows XP and later use).

Many times if Windows is corrupt it doesn't mean the entire hard drive is corrupted and  if it isn't you should be able to copy your user data to another PC.  (Now comes the chiding - why haven't you been doing backups of at least your user data?  it's not for "if" it will ever be needed but for WHEN it's needed).

If it's just Windows that is corrupt or even the "C" partition that's corrupt you should be able to reformat the "C" partition and reinstall.  If the hard drive itself is not bad, most Dell PC"s come with a recovery partition on the hard drive that will restore the PC to the original factory condition.  CTRL/F11 for XP and F8 for Vista and Windows 7.

No, you won't be able to repair the hard drive or reinstall Windows on it when the hard drive is in the USB enclosure.

Putting it in an USB enclosure is to let you recover your data files that are still on the hard drive.

I am not familiar with the Macbook OS. If you connect the USB enclosure with the HD to the Macbook and if you can see the directories and the files, then you can just copy the files in My Documents to USB flash drive.

ok thanks..

Mac can read NTFS ..but need a program to be able to write. I downloaded ntfs-3g from apple and works perfect.

Never did any backups on that dell computer.. never had any problem earlier. I was hoping for that maybe i just could

delete some system config files and then put it back in the dell computer to reinstall.. but no big thing.

thanks for answers guys :)

During the install process I would let Windows do a complete format of the hard drive.
