deleting word pad messages

I have several letters listed under the File tab on Word Pad.  How can I delete them?

Those aren't really there. That's just a list of recently used files that can be used for easy access. Click on one to open it if it's still available. Delete it from where you saved it--usually My Documents.

If you just want to remove the list of recently opened files in Wordpad, but not the files themselves, you can use utilities such as Adaware or Spybot, or you can edit the registry, go to

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Applets\Wordpad\Recent File List

To open the registry editor, click start, run, type regedit, click OK. To navigate to the above key, in the left pane click on the + next to HKEY_CURRENT_USER, then on the + next to Software, then on the one next to Microsoft, then Windows, CurrentVersion, Applets, Wordpad, left click on the key (folder icon) called Recent File List to show its contents in the right pane, then in the right pane you will see in the data column items called File1, File2, etc. Each corresponds to one entry in Wordpad's recent file list. On each of these, right click, click delete. When done close regedit.
