Dell Command Update 3.0 - install during OSD
I would like to install DCU 3.0 during our Bare Metal OSD deployment in the SCCM Task Sequence. The task appears to only partially install DCU. Some of the files are there, but there is no way to launch it... no icon in the start menu.
I can use the same installation command on an existing system and it will install completely with no problems. On a complete installation, there are two listings in Apps and Features:
- Dell Command | Update
- Dell Command | Update for Windows 10
When trying to install from a task sequence it only installs the "Dell Command | Update for Windows 10" entry. I can probably get it to install correctly if I put the install locally on each computer and put something into the RunOnce reg key to kick off the installation... but I don't want to have to do that if there's a better way.
Any ideas?

Thanks but that is not the same thing. Dell Command Configure looks like its a way to customize BIOS settings in one spot, then deploy those BIOS settings across other Dell computers.
The program we are all talking about is Dell Command Update, which scans the system and keeps it up to date with the latest drivers and BIOS updates all from one central screen, rather than going out to dell's website, entering the service tag and then trying to figure out and compare what versions you have installed now, and what versions are newer on the site, downloading them all manually and executing them one by one.
I just imaged an Optiplex 5060 with Windows 10 1809 and before the sysprep Dell Command Update 3.0.1 was in the start menu and working, and now after the sysprep and deploy, Dell Command Update is NOWHERE in the start menu, but if I do a RUN appwiz.cpl, I see Dell Command | Update for Windows 10 Installed on 4/29/2019 25.7 MB 3.0.1. However there is absolutely NO WAY to execute this program.

Dell Command | Update is primarily targeted at customers who want to manage their systems on their own. The tool is designed to allow users to specify their update preferences and apply updates based on the criticality. Alternatively, end users can use the scheduling option to keep their system up-to-date with the systems software released by Dell.
The command line scripting mode of the application allows administrators to use their automated remote deployment infrastructure for their updates.
Dell Command | Update also features a command line interface to direct customers to an intranet repository and deploy applicable updates.

I put the service tag of one of my Optiplex 5060's in the drivers download page and it did offer Dell Command Update 2.4.0. The file name is Dell-Command-Update_DDVDP_WIN_2.4.0_A00.EXE
2.4 is newer than 2.3.
It ran and did a search, but did not find the bios update from 1.2.22 to 1.3.4. I had to download and run that manually.

Seeing this as well, but only for the account that was used during the MDT process. It appears another local account, did have the shortcut available in the Start Menu,

i have exactly the same issue as described in the initial post from MikeyMcG:
- manual install -> icon will be visible
- automated installation -> icon will be visible for the user that has installed the app, but for nobody others. access to a exe is not given.
this is how i fixed the problem (don't know if this will be accepted through dell, maybe they remove my post only AFTER they fixed the problem in their own installer!?)
Version tested @ work: 3.1 (found in the tempfolder from the autoupdater from a 3.0-instance)
Version testet @ home (for writing this text): 3.0
1. start the installer and extract the data into c:\temp\ (or whereever you want, i will use c:\temp\ for example)
2. double-click the installer and let it extract some things. This will result in folders in %temp% (e.g. c:\users\testusername\appdata\local\temp\
2.1 the setup has created four folders with guid-names, in my case the name was "{3F9C50B2-D389-444F-BFE7-1514F7659366}", "{4EC5D3EA-45F9-43FE-9969-0E6BFB43D9C2}", "{5DF131B8-2589-4E79-AE87-7D0ECE8A33F5}", "{5669AB71-1302-4412-8DA1-CB69CD7B7324}". Other Versions will create other guids, so look at the last-changed-time.
3. One of the folders contains a file named DellCommandUpdate.appxbundle. copy this file into a place which your computeraccounts can access
4. Create a script, package, gpo or whatever you want. You have to deploy the entire Dell Command Update 3.0 Utility as it is described in the manual. Maybe "/S /v/qn" will work.
5. Expand your script to install the appxbundle (need administrative rights). For my tests, the Icon in the startmenu will be visible after logon (logged on users will not see it until they logout). For compatibility reasons, here is a batch:
copy "\\your-server\share-which-could-read-from-computers\DellCommandUpdate.appxbundle" "c:\temp\"
dism.exe /online /Add-ProvisionedAppxPackage /PackagePath:c:\temp\DellCommandUpdate.appxbundle /SkipLicense
(notice: i have tried the /LicenseFile-Switch, but i received a error. After i try /SkipLicense, dism returns 0...)

I entered the command exactly as show below and it appears to be working.
DellCommandUpdate.exe /S /v/qn
