zeke47o,

If you did not receive a CD for reinstalling Windows XP with your system, call technical support and advise them of this fact. They will provide one.

If you can't see the HT function in your task manager (where it should have two CPU usage graphs if you have HT enabled), you can enable it in your BIOS. I believe you hit F2 upon start up, and in one of the categories, HT technology can be enabled/disabled.

Hi, I have a Dimension 8400 purchased just last week and my computer came up with a windows protections files message that requested the Windows XP CD-ROM.  I contacted Dell who told me that Dell do not send computers with the CD ROM disc anymore.

Instead, the hard drive 'apparently' has a partition on it, where Windows XP is stored and accessed.  I was advised to ring (In the UK) Dell Software support to be told how to access it!

HTH

jayan73,

Supposedly the procedure here may produce a reinstallation CD, but the documentation is not clear that it will do so and the one user who has tried it was unable to make it work. If it works for you, please post that fact and confirm that it does produce an XP reinstallation CD. (Of course, if the error you received prevents you from booting to Windows the procedure is clearly useless.)

The other alternative you have in the UK is to call the number in this post. It has worked for others who have tried it.

In either case, please post your results.
