- Hi, thanks for the reply. The Dell folder is not in the common startup, nor do I see it in the System Configuration Utility under common startup. I do see DMX Launcher with the command C:Program Files/Dell/Media Experience/DMXLauncher.exe. That is the only reference to Program Files/Dell/..., though the location is HKLM/..., not common startup.
- I found the problem. In the Registry Editor I found that HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS\CurrentVersion\Run had the entry for dscactivate as C:\Program Files\Dell Support Center\gs_agent\custom\dsca.exe. Once I put quotation marks(")around the path ("C:\......exe")the Dell folder did not open.
- I had exactly the same problem when I installed the new Dell Support Center 2.0 on 10/31/07.I used your fix by placing the quotation marks at the beginning and end of the 'path' as outlined in your message. It worked and the offending window has disappeared at boot-up and restart.Thanks for solving the problem. How did you ever think of that solution ?According to the instructions for the "Dell Support Center 2.0" I uninstalled the old "Dell Support" using Windows Add and Remove. Looking into C:\Program Files\ I find "Dell", "Dell Support", and "Dell Support Center". Can I delete the "Dell Support" folder and its 13 sub-folders and files ? This is a Win XP SP2 machine.Thanks
- Happy to help. I too have the "Dell Support" file and its sub-folders. Seems logical that file should be deleted though I am hesitant. Where did you find the instructions for "Dell Support Center 2.0?" I came to the "folder opening" solution by searching the internet for similar problems and then doing a bit of trial and error with the Registry Editor. I too would like reassurance that we could delete the large "Dell Support" file.
- I can't find the instructions again for the Dell Support Center. It might have been during the install process that I saw the suggestion to uninstall the previous installation of Dell Support. After the Support Center install I had two Dell icons in my system tray. One for Dell Support and one for Dell Support Center. After the Dell Support uninstall I have only the blue shaded icon for Dell Support Center.I have renamed the C:\Program Files\Dell Support folder Dell Support OldIf a file from the original Dell Support folder is needed it won't be available anymore because of the rename. I have run numerous utilities in Dell Support Center since the rename with no problems. I'll leave the renamed folder as is for several weeks and if I have no problems with the new Dell Support Center looking for a file or files in the old Dell Support folder then I'll delete the original Dell Support folder and sub-folders and files.Here are two URL's I searched out on the "Dell Support Center".
- tfmaguire,I have had no problems with 'Dell Support Center' looking for a file in my 'Dell Support Old' directory so I am going to delete that directory and leave it in the 'Trash Can' for several days so I can restore it in case 'Dell Support Center' looks for it.You were successful in using the registry to stop the 'Dell' folder from opening when Windows booted.I am using the new 'Webroot Desktop Firewall'. When Windows boots up I get a quick 'Splash Screen' announcing the Webroot Desktop Firewall. There is no where in the software to turn off that splash screen. I asked Webroot Support if there was an entry in the registry that could be changed to stop that splash screen every time I start the system and they said no ??Do you have any suggestions as to what/where in the registry I should look to see if I can disable that splash screen ?Thanks,Contoy
