Dell M1710 NVidia Drivers switch resolution after Resume

Turn off the screen saver, see if there is any difference

Haven't got a screensaver active.

 

This doesn't seem to happen everytime I resume, but quite often and internittently.  Seems worse when the notebook is resuming on battery power.  I have updated to the latest NVidia Vista beta driver (100.59) with a modded inf (from www.laptopvideotogo.com); and it still does it.

 

Anyone else seeing this issue?

Well I seem to have noted a trend:

 

If I sleep the notebook by closing the lid; when it resumes, resolution changes to 1024x768

If I sleep the notebook by pressing the On/Off button, when it resumes, resolution stays at 1900x1200  (both pressing On/Off & closing lid are configured to put the notebook into normal sleep)

 

So perhaps there's a bug in the Lid ACPI driver (are you listenning DELL?)

So after well over a year, this problem still exists.  DELL seems to be pretty slack on Vista support for the M1710.

This problem has been fixed for me for several months.  But no thanks to Dell.

 

My M1710 is at Bios revision A06 and I am currently using v158 series NVidia Video Drivers considerably newer than those released by Dell (which are BADLY flawed).

 

I can't say for sure whether the problem was fixed by the Bios updates Dell released, but I suspect it was probably due to poor early release NVidia drivers.

 

I would strongly suggest you go looking for updated NVidia Drivers at www.laptopvideo2go.com.  The only drawback to this is that you need a modified INF file, thus breaking the WHQL certification of the driver you are installing.

PS Dell should release more updated Vista drivers for the M1710, the driver support we are getting for this "premium" laptop is disgraceful.

 

Am having exact same problem with my M201, bought several months ago. Very annoying, still w/ no resolution of prob.

That is, having same problem with my M2010 above.

I uninstalled the Drivers the other night, rebooted, then installed the lastest Dell Vista download version (which are pretty old at this point) and they seem to be working for me...maybe.  I have not undocked in a few days, but they were behaving OK when I installed them.  Docking to a lower res monitor could be the issue if they break again - fingers crossed.
