Dell MediaDirect and supported formats?

Hey.

I just got my Dell XPS 1210, and it comes with Dell MediaDirect. It seems to be an okay media center solution, but one thing is irritating me. It can't play AVI files, and probably also some other formats.

Is it possible to install some kind of codec for MediaDirect so it can play AVI files?

Thx

You have to boot to Windows to run the codecs.  You can convert the avi files to a format supported by MediaDirect.  See videohelp.com for tutorials and utilities.

Is that really the only solution to this? To convert the AVI files to another format?

I have installed K-Lite codec so i can see the AVI movies in Windows Media Player, but the codec don't seem to affect MediaDirect.

I would really appreciate if there is a way to make MediaDirect play AVI files because i got like 100+ video clips in the AVI format, and it would take ages to convert all of them to MPEG. :(

(No it's not illegal copies of DVD movies)
