Dell OS recovery CD

Hi everyone,

I recently purchased a 4700 and created a OS Cd thru the Dell OS Recovery procedure since it came with no OS CD.

I sometimes like to reformat my hard drive and do a clean install of Windows after a year or so. Will this OS CD that I created be able to do this ?

Also when I install the recovery OS CD does it bring my computer back to its original state when I received it , with all the AOL offers, and tons of free trials that I know I won't use?
Or will it give me just the essentials without all the "junk"

Thanks for your help

The disc is a regular Windows XP disc. If you just want to reinstall Windows without the junk, use that disc along with downloaded drivers (use the support button above to get to downloads).

If you want to restore the hard drive image as originally shipped, use PC Restore. Use this procedure:
1. Power the computer on.
2. When the Dell screen appears press and hold the Ctrl key on the keyboard, press the F11 key, then release them both at the same time.
The Dell PC Restore by Symantec window appears.

NOTE: Only press the keys one time; if you press them more than once you will receive a keyboard error and will have to start the process over.

3. Click the Restore button. A caution message appears advising that all data will be lost.
4. Click the Confirm button. The progress window appears. When the restore is complete the message "The system recovery process was successful" appears.
5. Click the Finish button. The computer will restart.

Thanks for the quick response and detailed instructions. I'll have to make sure that I download the drivers as well.

Thanks again!

Good job by you to have the foresight to prepare your OS disc.

Good luck with the new system.
