Dell™ OS Recovery Utility

Dell no longer ships OS recovery cds with systems.  To reinstall the OS its on a hidden partition that you access from the Dell Logo screen using CTRL + F12.  Of course, you always have the option of buying your systems recovery cds.

The question was why the utility to create a disk didn't work, and it's because it's no longer included.

 

CTRL F11 restores the computer to an "as shipped" condition, not a reinstall of the OS, not CTRL F12.

 

And there is no need to buy anything, as Dell will ship the CDs for free.

Ship em for free? Well please explain to me why then does Dell charge you to get recovery disks when you order the system?  If you wanna see what I mean just pick a system and in one of the options you'll see the option of buying the cds.

So in simple terms there is no way I can create a OS CD for free?

Has anyone else had the same problem? Are there no alternatives?

Right, in simple or complex terms - you cannot create an OS CD.

The alternative, the ONLY option, is to Chat/call or email Dell and request the CDs.

Using the Advanced Forum Search on the bottom of this page, you can quite easily find the answer to this often asked question.

Apparently you haven't read many posts, including Dell-Chris M who states what I did.  And since I've done it, I know it works.  If you do not buy the CDs upfront, as of now Dell still ships them for FREE if you ask.  and they are NOT "recovery" CDs.
