Dell recovery disks
Hello,
I would like to perform a clean install of Windows 7.
I found a link http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/dellcare/en/backupcd_form?c=us&cs=RC1001260&l=en&s=dhs which allows you to order a OS recovery disk from Dell.
Is this service only available if you ordered your laptop from the Dell website? Or if you purchased a Dell from say Best Buy can you still request a recovery disk
Is there any cost
How long is shipping
Thanks

This is a users helping users forum, and not for directly contacting Dell.
If your PC is registered to you with Dell then you may be eligible. From what I recall, retail purchased PC's must have ownership transferred through Dell.
However, there is a Dell recovery partiton on your hard drive, accessed by F8 at power on that will allow restoring the PC to the original factory condition and no discs or drivers are needed.
If the recovery partition has been deleted or corrupted you can download the same version of Windows (e.g. if you have Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit then download that version), create an ISO DVD and use the DVD and the Windows Product Key on the PC to reinstall from discs. You can download any needed device drivers fromt he Dell downloads, accessed either by your PC model number or by your service tag number.

How to manually reinstall

If you don't have a program to burn an ISO DVD (but have the DVD burner) you can download the free and popular Imgburn program.
