Dell Sytem Restore DSR not working
Hi,
I need to restore my Dell to the original Win XP MCE system (for why see below), but Ctlr+F11 is not working at splash screen.
From reading, I think this may be because the MBR became corrupt and I ran DOS' FIXMBR , which I now guess restored it to Microsoft's default perhaps?
I've checked and the DSR partition IS still present, as is DSR.EXE, I have also disconnected all peripherals.
Is there another way to run DSR e.g.g from windows? or dos?
Is there an easy way to recreate the right MBR?
I have seen there is a program downloadable called Dsrfix (see: http://www.goodells.net/dellrestore/fixes.htm), but his requires floppies/CD and my laptop doesnt have a floppy drive or writable cd.
Background: I ran defrag on Kaspersky filesm but at the end it wrecked the boot record somehow!

If the Dell recovery partition is corrupted or the OS or boot record has changed on the PC the ONLY way to restore is with discs. As you have XP, PC's in that time frame (I have a desktop that came with XP MCE) also were sent the needed discs for restore. The Dell Windows XP MCE disc and the Dell Drivers and Utilities disc. If you have lost these and are in the US you can request a repacement set from Dell. There is a minimal charge for the discs. HERE is the request form.
