Dell XPS 8700 windows 8 upgrade
Recently purchased my XPS 8700 and tried to upgrade my MS Windows 8 OS to Windows 8.1 which is supposed to be free upgrade. I followed the instructions but could not get it to upgrade. I did receive a message that some versions installed by the computer manufacturer may not upgrade. Has anyone had this type of problem and is there a work around? Thanks

Try performing the steps below.
1) Uninstall KB2871389 and reboot.
2) Download the KB2871389 update from Microsoft --> http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=40098
3) Install the KB2871389 update manually and reboot.
4) You should now (hopefully) see the 8.1 upgrade in the Windows Store.

Its similar instructions to above but also recommends uninstalling old drivers in case theres a conflict with the update.
