Desktop Folders won't open and lock up computer.

 HI,

 

 I'm running windows XP Pro and as of yesterday when ever I try to open up a folder from the desktop the computer locks up and I have to reboot.  I've read the problems others seem to have had with this issue but they don't seem to relate to the exact isuue I'm having.  Has any one run into this before and have any solution.
