Desktop Icon unwanted highlight

The titles on all my destop icons have become highlighted. How can I restore them to the original un-highlighted state?

EamonX1,

Go to Start|Control Panel|System|Advanced tab. Under Performance click the "Settings" button. On the Visual Effects tab check "Use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop." Click Apply and OK out.

Thanks Denny,

The box was in fact already ticked. The problem remains.

You could try selecting "Custom" by pressing Windows+Break(Pause) keys together , Advanced tab , "Performance" , Settings button , select "Custom".
I have only the following boxes ticked;
"Show windows contents while dragging"
& the last four "Use ........" boxes.

Thanks Garry. Tried it, but no joy. I will try running virus scan next.

try by running a default windows xp theme; then make sure to do what denny recommended on using drop shadows for icons, then customize your theme with whatever background , etc.

Thanks a million. It worked. I changed the theme and the highlight on the labels  disappeared.
