Desktop icons disappear

Question

I have a dimension 4550. logged off one day next day I log on and all I get is the background picture but no icons or taskbar.

Any error messages?

If you know what changes were made just before problem started, then undo them using Add/Remove Programs tool, or

Use Windows System Restore to a point just before the problem started

You may need to reboot, press F8 before XP starts to load and select 'Last Known Good', if you're unable to do a System Restore from the desktop. Ron

Did not make any changes before it happened. I have tried last known good configuration, tried system restore, tried stopping and restarting explorer.exe, tried repair on windows. Still nothing helps. Any other suggestions. Thanks in advance! Frank

Glad you got it fixed. Too bad you had to do it the hard way. Don't forget that you need to resinstall all Microsoft updates for XP, IE, Office etc again, asap. Ron
