Desktop icons disappeared
When I turned on my computer today, half the icons on my desktop had disappeared. I have Windows 7. Have no idea what happened to them or how to get them back. Any suggestions?

It may be worth trying right clicking an empty bit of desktop>view> uncheck show desktop icons then enable it.

Use the System Restore function and restore the PC back to a date when all the icons were displayed. System Restore can be accessed from Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools. System Restore will not delete any user data or e-mails but if any programs or program updates were installed after the Restore Date, they will have to be reinstalled (or if anything was uninstalled, it wil have to be uninstalled again).

Tried this. Did not help, just uninstalled the software for my new printer.

This problem has been discussed on the forum of Microsoft. I suggest you to read it. There are several suggested ways for your problem.

Recently this happened after a client used a registry cleaner.
Regardless of the cause, fireberd's suggestions will most likely fix the problem.

Nope, none of these suggestion fixed the problem and I do not have InfraRecorder.
I forgot to mention what happened previously. I signed in, said I had the wrong password, so I tried again. Then I got some message that said I was signed in as a guest (maybe not the correct term the message used, I can't remember exactly). and any files created could not be saved. So then I restarted my computer, signed in again and that is when half the icons came up missing. A friend said he thinks my computer does not remember me but he does not know how to fix it in Windows 7.
