DESPERATELY NEED HELP!!!! How to restore backup files??

I had upgraded from XP to Windows Vista.  Didn't like Windows Vista.  So I decided to go back to Windows XP.
Before doing so, I did a back-up of all my files and saved it to an external hard drive. I now have Windows XP back on my computer.
My external hard drive has the back-up on it. The back-up is named "Backup Set 2007-03-21" and within that file are two more files named "Backup Files 2007-03-21" and "Catalogs".  The "Backup Files" folder has 53 GB worth of files in it.

How do I transfer that stuff onto my computer now??????????????

PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!

Use the same program that you used to back them up to restore them.

I see though what the problem may now be...
Don't tell us that you used the backup feature of Vista to back them up.
You did... Didn't you?

If so the only way I know to restore them is with the Vista Backup software which you no longer have available since you have gone back to Windows XP....

The only way out of this loop is to reinstall Vista.
Use the Vista back-up to restore the files.
Then back them up with an application that is both Vista and XP compatible.
Back them up with that ( or just copy them to the USB Drive ).
Then install XP.
Then restore them with the XP compatible software ( or copy the files back to XP ) from the USB Drive.

I know this isn't what you wanted to hear, but.... It is all I got.

if you made the backup in XP with the xp supplied backup utility, you can download a version that works with Vista from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=7da725e2-8b69-4c65-afa3-2a53107d54a7&DisplayLang=en

You could also run the Dell Symantic Quick Restore program to bring your computer back to xp. Vista disables the program and you will have to re-enable the program. Download the Goodell Quick Restore ISO image file and burn it to disk. Then boot to the cd and type a few commands. Takes about five minutes.

Be sure to scroll down to the ISO part and skip the the rest. And be sure to read the instructions ...you have to copy down the commands.

I see you fellows are missing the key points in the original post:

1.) I had upgraded from XP to Windows Vista.

2.) So I decided to go back to Windows XP.

3.) Before doing so, I did a back-up of all my files and saved it to an external hard drive. ( Note: From the preceeding statements this was done in Vista before going back to XP. )

4.) I now have Windows XP back on my computer.

5.) The "Backup Files" folder has 53 GB worth of files in it. How do I transfer that stuff onto my computer now??????????????

Lins77 backed up the files while in Vista ( see the above points ). And now wants to restore them after going back to Windows XP.... If they used the Vista Backup Utility it just isn't going to happen. Sorry for the bad news. :smileysad: but it is what it is.

My statement here ( from above ) is the only solution if I read the post correctly. If I am out to lunch, please show me what I missed.
