hey , why dont you try this.

To resolve this behavior, set the startup type for Plug and Play to Automatic. To do so, follow these steps:

1.Click Start, click Run, type services.msc, and then click OK.2.Double-click Plug and Play.

If you receive a Configuration Manager message, click OK.3.In the Startup Type list, click Automatic, and then click OK.4.Close Services.5.

Restart the computer.

Hi ,

regarding your internet connection, why dont you try doing a power recycle. turn off all the devices thats there for the internet connection, including your computer, the cable or the dsl modem and unplug all the cables that are involved in the connection.

Leave them alone for about five to six minutes(that flushes out the issue with ip addressing if any).then turn them on one by one starting from the cable modem, wait till all the link lights are stable and then plug the cable for the nic card and put it back to your system and then turn on the system .
wait for sometime and then check for the system ip address. this mostly takes care of it. if its still showing 0.0.0.0 or something in 169.254.x.x try releasing the ip using ipconfig/release and then renew using ipconfig/renew.

you could check for any issues with network card driver in device manager. see if there is any conflict or not.

if nothing works out, reset the tcp/ip stack.

lemme know if this worked or not .

gud luck .

It didn't work and to make matters worse, the device manager is blank again.  Does anyone know if this is sticktly an operations system problem? I have never experienced this problem before. The problems with the network settings and my ip address reading zeros, sound card isssues, windows media player not working and my dvd's being very slow like frame to frame movement, si just mind boggling.
