DFS.Agent.WinService uses 35% CPU on idle system

I'm seeing high CPU usage from Dell Foundation Services on my XPS 15 laptop with Windows 10.  The software is up to date.  It's causing high battery drain and the system runs hot when using other software.  Something looks amiss here.  Any advice?

Hi n8turepix,

Thanks for posting.

You can uninstall Dell Foundation Services from your computer by using the Add/Remove Program feature in the Window's Control Panel.

On the Start menu (for Windows 8, right-click the screen's bottom-left corner), click Control Panel, and then, under Programs, do one of the following:

·        Windows Vista/7/8: Click Uninstall a Program.

·        When you find the program Dell Foundation Services, click it, and then do one of the following:

·        Windows Vista/7/8: Click Uninstall.

Follow the prompts. A progress bar shows you how long it will take to remove Dell Foundation Services.

I gave it a try.  Immediately, the fan on the laptop stopped running.  I hope Dell will investigate this software and find out what's wrong.  There's no reason for anything to use that much CPU in the background continuously.

Your post didn't say which model XPS 15 you had.  Is it possible that your model was not tested for Windows 10?

It's a XPS 15 9530.  It was shipped with Windows 8, then upgraded.  I'd be happy to provide any diagnostic info if needed, but it's recent enough that Dell should have a unit to test DFS on.

In researching this, I found the following information to resolve the issue you are experiencing:

Download and install Dell Foundation Services 2.1.125.0 or greater from the Dell Support Website.
