Dialup box

In Internet Explorer go to Tools|Internet Options|Connections tab. Click to select your connection then click the "Settings" button. On the dialog that open click "Advanced." On the next dialog uncheck both boxes (unless you wish to automatically disconnect after a specified period of inactivity, in which case only uncheck the lower box).

Right I am ok up to Options/connection tab do not under stand Click to select connection.

Goes without saying I am not computer user of the year.

Under "Dial-up and Virtual Private Network Settings" there will be a list of the connections set up on your computer (there will probably be only one). Click to highlight it, so that you will be displaying the settings for that connection in the next step.

When I click on connection then settings then advanced I get a proxy settings box come up?

You should click the Advanced button shown here.

It gets worse,

                          In this box where it says Dial-up settings, User name and password is empty

                          the advanced button is not active.

The only thing I can suggest is that you go to Start|Control Panel|Network Connections and set up a new connection. If all the options are available on it, you can delete the connection you are currently using.
