disk cleanup won't run
Whenever I try to run the disk cleanup it stops right at the beginning of the analysing phase. I can manually remove temporary internet files by going to the Internet Properties but I know that there's probably more than just that which would come up if the disk cleanup ran. It's aggravating since this computer isn't that old.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Karen

If you never get to the point of selecting which items you wish to have removed cleanmgr.exe may be corrupted. Run System File Checker to replace any missing/corrupted system files. Go to Start|Run, enter sfc /scannow and click OK. (There is a space after "sfc".)

Denny,
Thanks for your response. I ran the sfc /scannow and it ran all the way through but things are the same. (There wasn't any kind of report or message when it finished. Should there have been? The box just disappeared from the screen after the status bar got to the end.)
Where do I go from here?
Thanx,
Karen

If I understand the problem Disk Cleanup is freezing at the second screen shown here. If so, how long have you let it stay there before cancelling the run (and how big is the hard disk)?
A common problem with Disk Cleanup is hanging during the "Compress old files" portion of the cleanup run itself.

It is definitely hanging on the Compress Old Files portion. I've clicked on it and left it open for hours but it never moves past 2 or 3 squares on the status bar. I'm not sure which number refers to the disk size (sorry!) so I'll give you the info on the system properties tab.

Intel Pentium (R) 4 CPU 2.00GHz

Thanks,
