Diskette drive 0 seek failure?
My hdd just died and I got a new drive, and installed win XP. Now when I boot it comes up to a screen with my mobo name, and " Diskette drive 0 seek failure, then I get press f1 to continue, F2 to enter setup." I am assuming it is talking about floppy disk, so I go into bios and try to change the settings, but nothing helps, it won't let me delete the floppy drive, and it won't let me change the settings????
I am very upset with this, I have searched the internet to see if I can find a solution, but none so far has worked.
This is a Dell Dimension Amd Athlon 64X2 dual core E521.
Someone please give me some advice.....

According to the Dell manual HERE you set the Diskette Drive to "OFF" in the BIOS (the default is "internal").
Make sure you save the new settings when you exit the BIOS.

It is set to internal, but I still have the problem, I also tried setting it to off, no go?

It needs to be set to OFF. If you set it to OFF and then save the setup changes when you boot it should not come up. Since you apparently didn't have this before you installed the new hard drive, where did you install this drive? Did you install it where the original was and use the same SATA port?

Yes I installed it in the same SATA port as the original hdd. I noticed the floppy disk is diabled , and then the intergrated is enabled. It won't let me highlight the intergrated floppy disk, to change it to disabled?
I am also having problems getting the ethernet controller installed, I got the NIC drivers installed, but I keep getting a yellow mark on my controller? I tried downloading the controller, but it won't download from the dell site, or rather it does download, but It is a windows file, and I can't double click it to install?

When you do an install, (1) Install Windows (2) Install chipset drivers (3) Install Device Drivers, such as sound, video, ethernet, etc. Most device drivers will not install or work correctly if the chipset drivers were skipped.
Back to the BIOS problem. Reset the BIOS using the procedure in the referened Manual, then go in and set the Floppy to disabled and save the settings. See if that fixes the BIOS (setup) problem.

I finally got my floppy to stop. Also got my network controller installed, I had to uninstall all my drivers and start with my chipset drivers.
