Download problems

Question

I have a 28.8 K internet connection speed. I used to be able to download large files (50mb+) but now, the download says it's 100% complete, but only has about 25% of the actual file size downloaded. I have the latest version of IE, I've tried clearing out the temp internet files, and rebooting, but a microsoft website and a tiger software website that I tried to down load SAPI 5.1 speech engine from keeps prematurely completing the download.

I need the SAPI 5.1 speech engine to use a speech to text program.

Most likely this is caused by your ISP and slow connection. MS says you must have a faster connection to download this program:   http://www.microsoft.com/speech/download/sdk51/ You can order the cd from MS or have a friend download it for you and copy to cd.

There are also download manager uitilities avbailable that will resume a download from where it left off if the download gets disconnected. However, some also have spyware, so choose carefully if you search on Google. Some that don't (according to their policy statements) are

You don't have to believe all the hype about speeding up, but it should help with interrupted downloads.

I have not tried these as I have broadband, but I used to use similar software on W98 when I had a slow connection and it did help to resume downloads that had been interrupted.

Thanks for your replies. After I ordered the CD, (which was out of stock, and had a 2 week waiting period) I posted here.

Then I got an idea, Download Express. I had it before but it expired. It allows pausing and resuming downloads, and if the connection is interrupted, I can log back on to AOL, and resume the download. After 5-6 hours, I finally got SAPI 5.1 downloaded.Of course I backed it up!!!

I had to train it with my voice (Have a long way to go, or need a better microphone. I bought a program yesterday by internet, called "Speakpad" and it types out whatever I say(though not very well, do to possibly more training sessions, or a better microphone is required (I suspect it is the cheap microphone)

I am so thankful that I didn't let $32 go down the drain. (The CD was $15, the reg key was $15.95? and I was able to download the program right away!!!

i would contact aol and see if they have additional phone numbers in your area.. tell them that the one you are using is not working well.. maybe you cannot find a better connection, but maybe you can..
