Downloaded programs will not install in Vista Home Premium

Hey,

 

I just re-installed a fresh copy of Vista from the Software Restoration Discs I received with my Dell Inspiron 1721.

 

I am having a problem whereby every program that I download off the internet (with any browser) will not install. When I click on them, a prompt asks me if I want to run a program with an "unidentified publisher" but, even when I say yes, it immediately is followed by "XX has stopped working, etc."

 

I'm really at my wits end about this. Does anyone have any ideas?

On the downloaded file, do a right click, and then run it as administrator... It should work the way you do it

I have tried this, and it does not make a difference.

By the way, this problem occurs with EVERY program that I download EXCEPT those that I download using BitTorrent. It also does not happen if I download a program on another computer, put it on an USB drive and install it that way.
