Driver Request Thread for Unsupported Systems [Unofficial]
For Windows 8 Dell only officially support the models listed here. If you are using one of these models and are having troubles downloading from Drivers and Downloads please check for the Driver in the Dell FTP Website before posting. The Dell FTP Website isn't as updated as frequently as the Drivers and Downloads page but is in general far more reliable. If the Dell FTP website isn't updated to include the driver you are after. Please look at the instructions here Drivers and Downloads Issues & Direct Links & Workarounds and include the system model, the OS, the driver you were attempting to download and the broken links.
If you are wanting to install Windows 8 on an unsupported system update your BIOS to the latest revision available before installing Windows 8. Please note Windows 8 should run fine on most systems that came with Vista or 7. My Windows Reinstallation Guide/Upgrading to Windows 8 should give you full instructions with optimal results.
Windows Reinstallation Guide and Related Wikies
Note there is information at the top of this guide about a poll which I made due to the difficulty of requesting a Reinstallation DVD/USB from Dell, the pdf of the Windows Reinstallation Guide is found below the information about the poll.
The rest of this thread is about Drivers. I have already listed a number of unofficial driver sets for Windows 7 & 8 and you should check to see if your system is available there before posting. Please note Windows 8 will natively include many drivers already and in some systems no additional drivers are required. e.g. I installed Windows 8 on my XPS 8300, it worked fine without any additional drivers but I took some from the XPS 8500 anyway thus there may be a lower number of Drivers required for a Windows 8 installation than an earlier version of Windows (especially WIndows XP). Note if you have any problems with the unofficial Driver sets post here opposed to the comments because I don't get any notification for comments on my wiki pages.
Disclaimer: Use of Unofficial Driver sets (even if they are Dell Drivers taken from newer systems) will be unlikely to be supported by Dell Techncal Support who will possibily recommend you to revert to your earlier version of Windows if you are experiencing issues.
The following are quite common drivers and you should install these after installation of Windows 8 if they are applicable to your system:
System Utilities
• For systems with Dell ST Microelectronics DE351DL Motion Sensor http://ftp1.dell.com/folder00951951m/6/
Chipset
Video
• For the Intel ones, the update utility listed under Chipset should of got the driver and in the case of switchable graphics the Intel driver should be installed first.
Network
• For Dell Wireless Cards and Dell Wireless Bluetooth Modules look here.
• For the Intel ones, the update utility listed under Chipset should of got the driver.
Input
• For systems with Synaptics Touchpads use the Synaptics Touchpad here
[older/Dell] 16.3.1.1 http://downloads-us.dell.com/FOLDER00800134M/2
[newest/non-Dell] Synaptics Directly http://www.synaptics.com/resources/drivers.
I'm not sure if both support Gestures, leave feedback if they do or don't.
• For systems with the Alps Touchpad use
[older/Dell] 8.1200.101.214 http://ftp.dell.com/FOLDER01255426M/1/Input_Driver_FGG85_WN_8.1200.101.214_A02.EXE
[newer/non-Dell] 8.100.2020.112 http://www.eightforums.com/hardware-drivers/10569-windows-8-alps-touchpad-driver.html
• For systems with the Cyprus Touchpad
2.5.1.27 http://ftp.dell.com/FOLDER01255772M/1/L322X_Input_Driver_98T43_WN_2.5.1.27_A02.EXE
Device Manager Check:
Follow this check to see if any other drivers are required.
Press the [Windows] and [Pause|Break] or [Windows] and [ e ] (to open computer) and then select properties.
On this screen next select Device manager.
Hopefully it should look something like mine.
If you have an error, yellow ? or ! as in my base system device then Windows 8 hasn't found a system driver correctly. Quickly check to see if you have missed installation of a driver. If you still can't find out what it is. Right click the device with the error and select properties:
Go to details and select Hardware ids. You should post here starting your model of Dell, the hardware ids and whether you have installed Windows 7 or Windows 8 and if you are installing the 32 bit or 64 bit version. This should help give us all the information required to find the driver. Also state if you are experiencing any abnormal behavior/limited functionality.
Note for advanced users, you may use the hardware IDs to search in the Microsoft Update Catalogue (requires internet Explorer). In this case I would search for PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_68B8 as it is more likely to find the driver than if I include the Subsys... and everything else.
To use the Microsoft Update Catalogue add the driver to the basket and then select view basket and then download. Although a basket is mentioned there is no charge for downloading the driver. You will then have to right click the unknown device in the device manager and select update driver, navigate to where you downloaded the driver from the Microsoft Update Catalogue and then select next, hopefully Windows should update the driver for you.
Note: Please vote on the IdeaStorm Ideas here which are designed to improve Dell software services.

My last post got truncated... I got this error message but I don't have the card.
If you get this error also your only choice is to install via the device manager.
Press the [Windows] and [Pause|Break] or [Windows] and [ e ] and then select properties.
On this screen next select Device manager.
Hopefully it should look something like mine. Expand network adapters right click your WiMax 5150 device and select properties
Select the driver tab and select update driver
Select browse my computer for driver software
Type C:\Dell\Drivers\DPVND\Drivers and then press next, follow through with the install and click finish.

Thanks for the post.
The drivers from Dell for Windows 8 are most confusing and there is no application that I can find to download the relevant drivers and patch them automatically.
I have ATG6400 first generation and it is working well with new SSD Samsung. I see that the Dell applications for control in the main do not work with Windows 8 and no new applications have been mentioned.
The one issue is have is the Broadcom USH w/swipe Dell Windows 8 driver as the previous driver was part of a Dell Connect or before that the Dell Control Panel Software that is not compliant with Windows 8.
If you know how to use the finger reader swipe with Window 8 please post here.... I know it can work as had it working with TPM before the DCP software forced me to rebuild my laptop.

You have definitely put together a nice collection of W8 resources here. I hope you might be able to point me in the right direction also. I have a Latitude XT2 that I really like using. I put a clean install of W8Pro 32bit and have been able to get everything except the bluetooth and the screen rotate button to work, (or any of the tablet control buttons for that matter). The touchscreen really works well with the W8 UI, I just wish it would rotate when I take it to tablet form. Any assistance is appreciated. Have a great day.

The Bluetooth Wireless 380 Bluetooth Driver should work on this system with the Dell Wireless 365 card: http://ftp1.dell.com/folder00865420m/1/
Try the NTrig Driver for the touchscreen, not sure if this will control the inversion: http://www.ntrig.com/Content.aspx?Page=Downloads_Drivers
My guess for the button is that it will be something in Dell ControlVault/ControlPoint. I had a look at some other posts on the Dell Community here and the solution mentions installation of Dell Control Point System manager. I have amended it to include direct download links.

Give them a try. Let me know the results and what other drivers you have installed so I can list an unofficial driver set for the benefit of other XT2 users.

Although there is also:
R245265 A17 64 bit
R245263 A17 32 bit
I am not sure why the A11 versions were recommended but the A11 file size is larger and may contain more drivers?

Yeah its the Dell ControlPoint and ControlVault. I think we had a post a few pages back about installing the Broadcom USH driver. It is something I need to have a better look into as there seem to be so many versions of ControlPoint/ControlVault and if I'm honest I'm not sure what each one does. e.g. Security Driver Pack, Connection Manager,...

I tried many files but the A11 versions when installed with VISTA Compatibility mode removed the yellow ! for Broadcomm USH.
The A11 makes several sub directorys and installs several different drivers.
Basically I took a New blank drive and tried several files but only got 1 to work for the USH.
The Broadcomm Device is not listed as a seperate driver anywhere.

Thank you so much Philip for the prompt response. As per your suggestion I downloaded the 06/05/2012 R312260 A21, Version 1.7.10000 Update Package 19214 KB (Windows Vista/7 32 bit) file and it installed perfectly. All the tablet buttons and controls are working now. The bluetooth module also installed and is working. I'm now working on finding the right drivers for the Intel GMA4500 graphics card. I want to be able to run Bluestacks. Thanks again for your help. Keep up the strong work.

Glad to help, you can try Intel directly for the Intel GMA4500 Graphics here: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=20598&lang=eng&OSVersion=Windows%207%20(32-bit)*&DownloadType=Drivers its a Windows 7 32 bit driver though and may or may not work on Windows 8.

Thanks for the explanation. I haven't got a Latitude E series laptop to hand so I don't know what works and what doesn't. Controlpoint and all its modules are still a mystery to me I will need to look up on it.

Thanks to your tip above I was able to get bluetooth working on my Inspiron 14R. Any ideas on WiDi? I've tried the suggestions on Intel's site but it wouldn't install. All worked well with Win 7.

From what I can tell the Broadcomm USH is a contactless RF CAC Card reader.
http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/kcs/document?docid=266398
Table of Contents:
The Broadcom Unified Security Hub (USH) drivers are included in the Dell ControlPoint Security Device Driver Pack, these drivers are located in the ControlPoint download category for your computer.
It also includes drivers for:
Broadcom Trusted Platform Module
Atmel Trusted Platform Module
STMicroelectronics Trusted Platform Module
Winbond Trusted Platform Module
O2Micro Smart Card Reader
Dell Smart Card Keyboard
UPEK TouchChip Fingerprint Reader
Authentec Fingerprint Reader
Vista Storage Driver Update (for ATAPI.SYS)
These drivers do not need the Dell ControlPoint System Manager software installed to work.
For more information on how to download and install drivers, refer to Dell Knowledge Base article: How to Use the Drivers and Downloads Website

Windows 2000
WINDOWS 8 seems to understand MOST older systems with Pentium D.
All Smithfield processors include EM64T and Execute disable bit features.
Several Dell models will not show this feature unless the processor can do it.
Documentation for the Dell Precision 380 does not mention it however
when I updated the BIOS to the latest version it showed the
EXECUTE DISABLE Bit option under the SECURITY TAB.
The exception for drivers not found is Video Drivers and Audio Drivers.

We need Dell/Alienware to provide NVIDIA with the correct Device ID for the M18x R1 with GTX 680M video cards installed. .
I contacted NVIDIA Support about this, and they refuse to update the drivers because Dell/Alienware has not provided them with the correct Hardware ID. For now, I am supporting myself by modding the NVDM.INF file to cause the NVIDIA drivers to identify the GPUs correctly, as I have explained in this post..
This is not difficult to do, but it is an unnecessary hassle to go through for video driver updates. The simple and hassle-free solution for customers would be for Dell/Alienware engineering to tell NVIDIA to add a line of code for the 11A0 GPU (GTX 680M) to support Hardware Device ID 048F1028 (M18x R1 motherboard).
