Drivers and Downloads Issues & Direct Links & Workarounds
Update to this poll. The Dell FTP website has direct links and is now updated:
http://ftp.us.dell.com/Pages/index.html
Use this link if you are experiencing issues with Drivers and Downloads.
This poll is now locked.
Hi everyone if you have experienced issues with Drivers and Downloads. Can you please post your model and location in this thread so that I can highlight the issue to Dell that this is a major issue.
i.e. if you are experiencing this error message.
[poll]
Edit: Dell technical support are requesting you post any of the links to the broken drivers and file names so they can quickly resolve the broken links. e.g.
XPS L421x BIOS A12 (L421XA12.exe)
http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/DriverDetails/Product/xps-14-l421x?driverId=13M9T&osCode=W764&fileId=3082620348
Gives "Sorry, the requested file could not be downloaded."
Also can you post other information for example if the drivers are downloading properly but not installing.
In addition post on this thread if the driver has reduced functionality to the earlier Windows 7 drivers. (I know users were complaining about the touchpad drivers for instance)
Note Dell only support the following systems with Windows 8 here. I have been helping people install Windows 8 on unsupported systems here.
For a limited time get Windows 8 Media Centre Pack for Free. See here.
Review this article here and search through the fixes/updates for any preinstalled software.
There is a free Dell Windows 8 for Dummies guide available from here.
In addition there is a number of useful videos here.
Note: Please vote on the IdeaStorm Ideas here which are designed to improve Dell software services.

I installed windows 8 pro on my XPS 15 L501X.
Everything is running smoothly.
I used Nvidia drivers from Nvidia website and synaptics package works without problem.
Realtek audio with WAVES MAXXAUDIO also works fine.
Dell quickset sometimes has some trouble, otherwise I am happy.
Only problem is the integrated webcam with the quanta driver.
The device manager shows the camera as having microsoft's integrated driver and starting camera app or skype causes the small LED besides the camera to light up. I think this means the camera is working, but for some reason, I cannot get an image, cannot record videos... nothing. The capture area remains black.
Another problem is my DVD writer (TSSTCorp) which reads DVD fine, but for some reason, while burning, i think it does everything execpt power up the laser (kind of like the 'simulate write' OR 'Test Burn' thing and after the burn finishes with a successfull status, the dvd checks out blank both in the burner software as well as explorer. I tried nero, imgburn as well as explorer's own burn function but same result.) I think this might be due to some fault with the drive itself, rather than the OS.
Overall, my laptop boots up in a breeze, gives me almost 30-45 mins extra battery time and decent graphics and audio as well as a very responsive OS ans programs. I am pretty much satisfied.
My config:
Intel core i3 (1st gen, not sure...)
Intel HM57 chipset with Intel HD
Intel WiFi/WiMAX (some celeron chipset, i think)
8GB RAM (I upgraded from the stock 2/4GB)
500GB HDD
Nvidia GeForce 420M with optimus
Realtek Audio with JBL speakers and Andreas Audio Noise cancellation
Synaptics touchpad
Quanta integrated webcam
Broadcomm bluetooth
Realtek Ethernet
Renesas USB3.0
OS: Windows 8 Pro 9200 soon to be updated with PRO Pack and WMC Pack.
Formatting the drive and Installation with all apps under 45mins.

Confirming this issue for Dell Inspiron 17R 5720, UK. The page says last update was this month, but these files are not present on ftp.dell.com and when downloading from website I'm getting the same error message as OP.
