Dual Boot Menu

Question

So, I just purchased a used Inspiron 6000. The person before me had installed Windows Vista. I found out that he had originally had XP Pro and upgraded to Vista. I know Vista and my Intel graphics are not that compatible with each other. I just formatted and reinstalled XP Pro but when Windows begins to load I get a menu asking which operating system would I like to use: Windows XP Pro or Windows XP Pro (it does not show Vista). This was happening to me when I had Vista also but my options were XP Pro or Vista. I only have one partition which was formatted and Windows XP was reinstalled on it. How do I get rid of this dual boot menu so that every time I start my computer I do not have to deal with it and why is it showing up if I just did a clean format? Thanks.

Have you taken a look at your boot.ini file? It is hidden by default and located in the root of the OS drive letter, usually C: -S

You may have overlooked the opportunity for cleanliness that is presented shortly after booting to the Windows XP CD, by first deleting and then re-creating and formatting the partition before continuing with the installation.

Have you gone to msconfig > Boot ini > check boot paths and see if one is incorrect or invalid? If one is I believe you can delete the invalid one and this shoud remedy your issue.

How would I know which is correct/incorrect since they both say Windows XP Pro?

I checked the boot.ini and it found a problem with one of them and deleted it. It works great now. Thanks for all of the help.

When you click on boot.ini another tab will say Check all boot paths Click it.  If one is invalid you should get a message saying so.
