Dual boot windows XP and Vista how to create it.

First, are you using 2 different hard drives? Or are you going to partition one drive in to 2 partitions? I have mine dual booted with 2 drives. All you do is install XP on one of the drives (or parition) and then install Vista after that to the other drive. The installer detects the other version of Windows and loads the bootloader so you can choose which one to boot to at start up.

sorry I have 2 drives but they are configured into a RAID 0 config.

Ok. Then to dual boot, you will either have to add another hard drive or create another partition with a partition manager like Acronis Disk Director. Then, boot to the Vista DVD and install it on that partition. Vista will see the other install and install the boot manager.

True. The OP should check on that. But, if it is hardware RAID on the motherboard, it shouldn't make a difference what OS it is.

My RAID driver is compatible with vista, as I ran the hardware adviser thing.

If you want raid, there are some workarounds that have been discussed on these forums. However, you must make that decision on what you are willing to try. I participated in some of these forums myself.

However, I currently have my setup in non-raid (autodetect mode versus raid on) in the BIOS. In this way, I am able to completely eliminate any concerns about the Intel Storage Matrix Manager because I am not using raid and everything is working great. Good luck.

thanks for that, however I am using a Nvida motherboard and chipset, not an intel, but I do have an intel processor dual core. I am not sure if this will cause problems.

I wil do, but I will format the drives first, take the RAID off and then I will have 2 drives, one with vista and one with XP. then I can properly test vista.

I just received a new XPS1210 (2GHZ Core duo) with Vista already installed. Can someone tell me if it is the 32 bit version of the OS that is installed by Dell? Tx JD51

From Dell, only the workstations have the 64 bit available. So, yours is the 32 bit. You can make sure by right clicking on My Computer and going to Properties.
