error message every time I start my computer
I get the following error message everytime I start my computer:
"Windows cannot find 'C:/Windows/System32/System32.exe'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again to...To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click Search."
I understand that this is reminants of a virus. What can I do to keep this from popping up every time?

I am getting the same error message, except mine says
\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM
Every time I start my computer, it will not let me do anything. I think I need to wipe out the harddrive and start over, but I am not sure how.
Did you get your computer fixed?

madmorg, if you opt to do a clean reinstall of win xp instead of doing the repair procedure in the article that denny posted a link for, there are instructions in dell support/solutions/reinstall guide (for doing a clean reinstall of win xp).. look at the instructions for your particular model dell computer.. doing a clean reinstall of win xp is pretty easy..

Could be one of several viruses or worms. Visit the symantec web site for instructions on how to remove this command from the Registry. http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.mari@mm.html Follow the instructions under Edit the Registry and do it carefully.
You should do a complete scan to check if the virus is still lurking.
