Error message
I have a Dell Dimension 2400 with Win XP Home, Intel Pentium 4 processor, 256 MB of RAM. For over a year when I first click on my user account to log in, a box appears that says:
tray_exe-Unable to locate component--appliction failed to start because core Dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix the problem. I just click on ok and continue logging in.
I have no idea what this message means or how it affects my computer's operation. Can anyone help me understand what this is and should I try to fix it?

The exact spelling of everything in the error message is extremely important. Is it tray_exe, as you have stated, or is it tray.exe?

Sharon,
I think that file is Spyware. It might have been deleted from your system but a reference to it remains in your registry. To be on the safe side, I would run a Spyware and a Virus scan.
