Failure with Acronis and Dell Restore Partition
Hello all,
I am experiencing the same problem over and over again with my Laptop. I use my Acronis True Image 2009 to clone my hard drive. I have an identical machine that had failed and needed a new drive. I cloned my good drive to my Dell 1501 running Vista Home Basic onto a new drive and installed it into computer 2. When I loaded the new drive into my machine, I let it boot completely once and it of course it searched and reloaded some drivers. I went ahead and restored the machine to factory and it went through the process up to when it was ready to restart the machine. Well it kept rebooting over and over again. I loaded my Dell Vista Basic disk and went to repair and repaired some startup issues. It booted fine after that. I was curious to see if it had corrected the issue and went ahead an restored again. Same problem came back. After the Restore to Factory was completed and ready to restart. It restarted and it kept rebooting over and over again, till I put the Dell Disk back in again. The computer booted up normally. Is there some problem with Acronis and the Dell Restore Partition? Is there someway to get this glitch resolved were I will not have to load a disk everytime I restore after using Acronis?

I have a Dell desktop that has the Dell Recovery Partition and the Dell Diagnostic Partition. When I do a backup, using Acronis True Image home, I back up all partitions. I've restored the hard drive a couple of different times from my backups and have never had a problem with any partition.
You may want to check with Acronis about the problem. I did have a problem with an older version of Acronis when I installed a larger drive. Acronis gave me some instructions on getting everything working correctly. This was an XP Media Center OS.

My Issue is not with the backup utility of Acronis, my issue is with the Clone Utility. I am cloning from an exact copy of my hard drive. I am using that clone to boot my machine. When I restore the drive that i cloned I get this problem. The error I am getting is either in the Partition Tables being mislabeled after being cloned from Acronis or the MBR being changed in some way after being cloned from Acronis. That is where my problem seems to lie.

When I went to a larger hard drive in my Dimension E510, the MBR was corrupted after installing (cloning) useing Acronis. Actually I had to run it twice as the first time it created a partition on the new drive the size of the original drive and I didn't want that. Acronis sent me a procedure to fix the problem, but I don't remember what it was and I'm not at that PC right now. As I noted before, Acronis would be the best one to contact about the problem. They responded within two days with the fix.
