Fax Cover Letter

Question

Could someone be so kind to direct me to where I could get a sample fax cover letter? Thanks in advance.

There are quite a few that are pre-built into Word already. Open up Word, pull down the File menu, choose New. On the New Document menu that appears on the right of the screen (in Word 2003), under Templates, click on On My Computer. You'll now get a window with multiple tabs on it. Choose the tab marked Letters & Faxes. There are about 6 different ones to choose from.

I believe on previous versions of Word you can get these templates simply by pulling down the File menu, choosing New, and that should bring up the window with the various templates available.

Txtchar, thank you for timely response. I have Word 2000 I have done what you have ask and can not find the templates. When I go to window components it ask for my cd that came with my computer and I miss place the cd to complete. I hope I have made this clear to my problem.

Wish I could help you from this point, but unfortunately I have no other point of reference other than the software I have to work with (all Word 2003 on the 3 computers I have here). I am recalling from my memory from Word 2000 that it should be available. You may want to post this on the Software MS Office/Works board for someone who can assist you. And, if it is asking for your CD that you can't locate, you may be out of luck, at least for a Microsoft-based template.

Remember, a fax cover sheet simply needs these components: the name of the person you are faxing the document to, the fax number, your name, your contact number, the number of pages contained in the fax (including the cover sheet), the current date, and any additional message you may want to include. You can type that up yourself without any help from a Microsoft template. Place a large heading at the top labeled "FAX" in a 36 point font (or larger) and you're ready to roll. I teach that to my students all the time. All the other stuff that is included in the Microsoft template provided in Word is what I call "jazz" anyway.

Here's something that may help if you need to format from scratch:  this is the old-style memo taken from a current college keyboarding textbook:  http://www.collegekeyboarding.com/kfe/lessons61-120/index.html  Click on Student Resources, then Model Documents.   When you get to the page labelled Formatting and Document Processing Essentials, click on Open Memo Reference Document.  Hold your mouse over the image that appears and it will give you instructions on the formatting, as well as you will be able to see what it should look like.  Set up your fax cover sheet in the same format, but label the top 'FAX.'  Include the parts needed in your fax cover sheet.   Don't worry about your grammar :) -- but make sure to run spell-check on your document before you print!  We didn't have that long ago when I learned on a typewriter!  Good luck!
