files left after XP system restore

Hi,all
I restore XP home on my new laptop to the date it arrived. all my programs installed are gone, but a lot of files related to those earlier programms are left in the "program and files" folder. should I simply delet it or leave it on?

regards,
tao

no, I went to
start-all program-accessories-system tools-system restore, and select the date when my laptop arrives.

when you say restore, did you use ctrl+f11?

try ctrl+f11 on bootup, if you have that option it will truely put it back to the day you opened it.

The thing to do, is remove those programs via the Add/Remove programs applet in the Control Panel.  Once you are sure they have been removed that way, most of the time it is safe to delete the folder within the Program Files folder.

Please be aware there could be a shared .dll file in there also.  The best thing to do is a clean install so nothing other than what you want is installed.
