Free? Upgrade

Question

I purchased a new Dimension E520 in December and was told there is a FREE upgrade to Vista. I have EVENTUALLY managed to get access to the dellvistaupgrade site today (3rd Feb) and entered my details but I am being asked for my credit card details. I am dubious about entering this as I don't want to get charged as I am supposed to get it FREE. What should I do?   The Stig (UK)

Dell charges you a few bucks, about $10.00 here in the US I think for the OS CD, and that is the charge you will be asked to pay by credit card.  Not the full amount of the OS if you bought it retail.  Anyway, its a no loose situation.  Even if they did charge you the full amount, you can dispute this with the credit card company..

Thanks! I entered my details and it said I would be charged £11.00 for 'Shipping'. I still have a gripe with paying £11.00 for shipping as when I originally bought the PC it said the upgrade was 'FREE' , no mention of an extra £11 and when I've just spent over £800 on the thing I DO expect 'FREE' to mean 'FREE'! But I suppose I'm being a bit too fussy! Or am I?   The Stig

where are you located that it costs you $60?   My shipping charge is $10.63 after taxes... which I think is a little high, however Dell always ships small stuff via DHL... so it's more expensive then sending a CD via 1st class mail at a rate of less then $1.00

I payed £11 which isn't too bad just a little more than p&p as if you were to order anything else over the net.

So, I say again.... What is 'FREE' when a charge of £11 is applied to ship it to you when you've already paid good money for the PC in the first place? I reckon Dell should pay for it when they say it is 'FREE'.   THE STIG

I guess I don't get it... when I ordered my laptop, it CLEARLY stated Free + shipping costs... which means, they will give you the upgrade for free but you need to pay the shipping...   don't get where your heartache is...?   I figure, yes I bought a laptop and am getting free upgrade software... I didn't pay shipping on the laptop which would have been what.... $20-40 maybe...? I don't mind $10 for upgrade OS software..   If you don't want to pay the shipping... then buy the software for $159 US... which is the going rate for Vista premium...
